Knott County Drug Abuse Council

The Knott Drug Abuse Council was established in July 2001 by a small group of concerned civic minded individuals who recognized a need in Knott County.

In 2003, the council reached 501c3 /tax exempt status and was recognized as a nonprofit organization. Funding for every aspect of the Knott Drug Abuse Council (KDAC) comes from donations by individuals and corporations as well as grants. Currently, the Drug Free Communities Grant, Champions for a Drug Free Kentucky Grant and KY-ASAP Grants are the primary sources of funding.

Operation UNITE is a very active part of the coalition, in addition to being a funding source. UNITE play a very crucial role in the KDAC’s ability to implement a monthly drug free activity.

KDAC works through all of Knott County for the prevention, education and eradication of drug and alcohol abuse. For more information about what sectors of the community support the council, visit the contact list.

Surveys conducted through Knott’s school district on students 10 -18 years of age indicate that a primary reason given for drug use is BOREDOM. Kids feel like there is nothing better to do. KDAC strives to provide something else to do.

On a monthly basis the council conducts trainings and plans events in an effort to provide an alternative to these parties where drugs and alcohol are abused.

The council meets the second Tuesday of every month. In an effort to get youth involved the meeting may be held at Knott County Central. The calendar will give the location. For you may call the KDAC office at 606-785-5503.

Check the KDAC calendar for upcoming events and information.
